Generally, SEM refers to a paid campaign wherein a business pays for ads to appear as search results on search engine results pages (SERPs).
This paid ads are usually located at the top and bottom of the page. Usually there’s an “Ad” added to it so the users would know that its a paid campaign.
In search engine marketing, advertisers only pay if the customer click on the campaign ad which will result to a site visit.
So even if they will always appear on the search results if the customer didn’t click the ads they won’t be spending on it.

Difference of SEO and Search Engine Marketing
SEO and SEM has become one of the online marketing strategy in increasing business reach. Specially, nowadays wherein there’s an increase of numbers of customers researching and shopping for products online.
Both SEO and SEM functions the same. It is to increase traffic to your website to eventually generate leads and increase sales.
The only difference is SEO uses organic strategy while SEM uses paid strategies to appear in search.
